I just spent ten minutes catching lightning bugs in a camp site in Maryland. Away from the world. Away from the phone calls and emails and drudgeries of every day. Away from the noise (other than the sounds of laughter, tree frogs, crickets, and wind in the trees).
Yes I’ll be spending 8 more weeks in the woods but not like this. I’ll b
e in a cabin, not a tent. I’ll be in a bed, not a sleeping bag on a cot. And it’s just possible that I’ll be happier this week than in those 8.
These are the times I thank my lucky stars I work for the Boy Scouts.
